Prime Minister Alexander De Croo visits Mervielde
Earlier this week, Mervielde welcomed Alexander De Croo, the Prime Minister of Belgium, in Ertvelde.
Patrick and Koen, the third generation of the Mervielde entrepreneurial family, set the tone for a sustainable future for this logistics company. They guided the Prime Minister around the sites at the Monumentstraat and the recently opened Seveso site along the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal.
Sustainable logistics player
De Croo was particularly interested in the logistics activities and charmed by the way in which the family business has been embedding sustainability and safety in all processes for more than 20 years.
Last year, Mervielde implemented an in-house high-performance filling service. In the new warehouse, liquids are filled into IBCs of 1000 litres, barrels and smaller packages up to 1 litre. In addition to storing and transshipping, treating and delivering liquids, Mervielde also offers the internal cleaning of tanker trucks.
Mervielde's central location in North Sea Port (Port of Ghent) opens the doors to multimodal transport, a sustainable solution that the company is happy to further expand.
With a view to significantly reducing its CO2 footprint, Mervielde also offers transport powered by HVO (hydro-treated vegetable oil), resulting in lower CO2 emissions of up to 90%.
Mervielde: doers who think
During the tour, the Prime Minister also became acquainted with the backbone of a strong organisation that consists of more than 230 employees. He spoke to drivers, planners, administrative staff, mechanics, cleaning and warehouse operators - each an expert in his or her field.
A look into Mervielde's exceptional open tank container and a ride in one of the reach stackers left no doubt that transport and logistics of liquids is serious business.
